Installing & Activating Office 2019 for Mac. The Apple pc had a one time purchase version of 2011. We removed it and installed the 2-licence 2019 standard software. When we start Word or Excel for 1st time we were asked to activate. Can't get past the id and password fields. We even reset the password twice and still can't get past this stage. The Volume License Serializer (VL) is used to activate Office LTSC for Mac 2021 or Office 2019 for Mac as a volume licensed version. The VL Serializer is a package (.pkg) file that you run on a Mac where Office is installed.

Download the Volume License (VL) Serializer from the VLSC

To download the VL Serializer, do the following steps:

Install office 2019 mac v16 33 zip download

Sign in to the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC).
Select the Download and Keys tab.
Search for 'Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2021' or 'Office 2019 for Mac Standard' (depending on which version of Office you're licensed for).
Select the Download link in the results panel.
Select the Continue button at the bottom of the window.
Select the icon (circle with download arrow) to download the VL Serializer .iso file.
Once the download is complete, mount the .iso file to extract the VL Serializer package file.

Then, deploy and run the VL Serializer package file on each Mac that you want to activate Office as a volume licensed version.

Office LTSC for Mac 2021 information

The name of the package file is Microsoft_Office_LTSC_2021_VL_Serializer.pkg.
The package file is approximately 12 MB in size.
Volume licensed versions of Office LTSC for Mac 2021 have version numbers of 16.53 or higher.
The VL Serializer has been improved so that a management tool can run the VL Serializer in the background even while the user still has Office 2019 for Mac apps open and running. The next time the user closes and opens the app, Office will switch over to using the Office LTSC for Mac 2021 license. This should help minimize user disruption when organizations move from Office 2019 for Mac to Office LTSC for Mac 2021.

The name of the package file is Microsoft_Office_2019_VL_Serializer_Universal.pkg.
The package file is approximately 11.5 MB in size.
Volume licensed versions of Office 2019 for Mac have version numbers of 16.17 or higher.

Additional information about the VL Serializer

The VL Serializer provides native support for both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs.
The volume license is located in the /Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.licensingV2.plist file.
The licensing plist generated by the VL Serializer contains data that's encrypted by using the serial number of the boot drive on the device where it was generated. Upon each Office application launch, the plist is decrypted by using the current boot drive serial number as the decryption key. If the data cannot be decrypted (for example, boot drive serial number is different), Office will go into an unlicensed state without warning.
Because the license plist file is encrypted using information from the device on which it's installed, you can't copy it to a different device to activate Office on that device.
There's a single VL Serializer package that contains a single key that's shared between all volume licensed customer installations.
The VL Serializer package contains a binary executable that's named 'Microsoft Office Setup Assistant.' It's this executable that actually activates the volume license.
The VL Serializer package is compatible with mobile device management (MDM) servers, such as Jamf Pro or FileWave.

To use Office for Mac in your organization, it needs to be activated. How you activate Office for Mac depends on whether your organization has a Microsoft 365 (or Office 365) plan or has a volume license agreement. But in both cases your users won't have to enter any product keys.

Activate Microsoft 365 versions of Office for Mac

If your organization has a Microsoft 365 (or Office 365) plan, make sure you assign each user a license for Office before you deploy Office to your Mac users. If you don't assign a user a license, you can still deploy Office to that user, but the user won't be able to activate and use Office on their Mac.

For Microsoft 365 (and Office 365) customers, Office for Mac activates by contacting the Office Licensing Service on the internet. The Office Licensing Service keeps track of which users are licensed and how many devices they've installed Office on.

After you deploy Office, your users are prompted to activate Office the first time they use it. Make sure users are connected to the internet when they activate Office. On the Sign in to Activate Office screen, users should select Sign In, and then enter their email address and password.

While you can deploy Office for your Mac users, your users need to sign in and activate Office for themselves. That's to ensure that the Office Licensing Service properly associates Office with the correct licensed user.

The device must be connected to the internet to contact the Office Licensing Service. If the device can't contact the Office Licensing Service after nine days, the user sees a warning message when working in an app.

If the device can't contact the Office Licensing Service after 30 days, Office goes into reduced functionality mode. This means that the user can open, view, and print existing documents in an Office app, but can't create or edit documents. The user also sees a message in the app that most features aren't available. After the user connects to the internet and the subscription status is verified, all the features of Office are available again.

For each user that you've assigned a license to, you can deploy and activate Office on up to ten Mac devices for the user. If you need to provide Office on an eleventh Mac for a user, you need to deactivate an existing installation first. Deactivating an installation doesn't remove Office from the device. Instead, the installation goes into reduced functionality mode.

Your users can manage their existing Office installations by signing into https://www.office.com with their work or school account. From there, they can choose View account > Office apps > Apps & devices. Or, if you're a Microsoft 365 administrator, you can deactivate an Office installation for a user. To do that, sign into the Microsoft 365 admin center, and then go to Users > Active users. Select the user, then select Account on the flyout pane, and under Office activations, choose View Office activations.
